Consisting of pianist Peter Rosendal, bassist Graig Earle and drummer Janus Temple¬ton, Rosendal.Earle.Templeton has arrived as a fully mature - although still seeking - trio with convictions and courage.
As always in a classic jazz trio, the main focus is on the pianist. However, Peter Rosendal is not one to sacrifice the sound of the band seeking personal attention. He prefers to be part of a tight unit. As a composer, he contributes his melo¬dic talent to the trio’s music, giving it direction through his gifted composi¬tions, and demonstrating how an unmistakably Danish sound can be combined with an unfaltering jazz feeling. On TIDE, he has refined content as well as approach, and in doing so Rosendal – and the trio as a whole – consolidate their unique place at the peak of the Danish jazz scene. In depth and musical integrity, they indeed seem alone among Danish piano trios.
While steeped in the jazz tradition, the trio’s playing is still unique, simple and de¬void of clichés. The music is mainly written by Rosendal, whose personal sound and indefinable Danish timbre has inspired much ad¬miration both at home and abroad. The music finds inspiration in folk music and hymns as well as classical music – and naturally jazz.
Bassist Graig Earle and drummer Janus Templeton provide steady accompaniment and inject the music with a modern rhythmic approach which perfectly compliments Rosendal’s writing and improvising. They play with the kind of tension that feels good, and pay great attention to detail within the music, as well providing as a strong acoustic sound.
Rosendal.Earle.Templeton’s latest album, “Tide” (Stunt/Sundance Records) was awarded “Jazz Album of the Year” at the 2008 Danish Music awards, confirming their status among the top jazz groups in Northern Europe.
“The listener can clearly hear, how the sound of the Danish music tradition can be fully integrated into the jazz idiom.” Politiken Newspaper’s 5 star review of Rosendal.Earle.Templeton’s debut album
“The refined blend of tonal poetry, playfulness and precise execution which Rosendal creates points to an unusual talent.” Information Newspaper’s review of “Tide”
